IS IT SUMMER YET?
I can feel my shirt sticking in my back, that's how hot it's been since yesterday. Quite unusual for spring, it's not supposed to go up that high because summer does not start until June 21st. The week started with my housemate and I taking the GO Train to work 'coz the TTC workers decided to go on a wildcat strike and so left thousands of commuters stranded, at home and missed work, or take an alternate means of transportation, like I did. I've never taken the GO to work since 2004 and it felt weird. The station is just two blocks away from where I live, but my boss and my officemates thought I was not going to make it. If only I had known that they didn't know there is a GO station nearby, I would have stayed home. Going home was chaos, the lineup was too long, and to make a stupid and long story short, I missed the first train by 3 minutes... 3 minutes! the next train which was 10 minutes after was Express and won't stop at Eglinton station so I had to wait for the 5:33train. To think that I left work at 4:40pm and most of all I didn't go to the Compliance party because I didn't want to miss that train.... Oh well, bad judgment on my part but it's okay.
The temperature was another story. It was unbelievably hot at home, but since I didn't have food I had to cook dinner and lunch for the next day (which is today) but b4 I did that, I was on the phone talking to Dell's Customer support since my housemate's notebook had a Parity (Memory) error. That damn (excuse me for the word) guy made me open the notebook and tried to coach me into diagnosing the problem. I obliged only to realize (I knew it in the first place) that the memory sticks had to be replaced. I made a harsh comment that I shouldn't be doing that and they should send someone to fix it, what if the customer didn't know about computers at all? I panicked when at 9pm it was still hot in the house. There is no central airconditioning in this house and since I am so used to AC when I lived with my cousin, I decided to use the masters bedroom, the only room with an AC. When I can't figure out where to plug it, I called my housemate, like --- "Help me fix this aircon, I am dying!!!" The AC worked but at 12midnight, I was still widely awake, tossing and turning. You see, the AC was making a noise that kept me awake all night, I decided to turn it off. I finally dozed off after that but had to wake up at 5:30am. Arrrggggh!! Why did I ever leave the Philippines????
Today is another summer-ry day they had to issue a Heat Alert, but I found the fan in the storage room. So my humidifier and the fan is working at the same time to cool my room off as well as trying to keep my blood from boiling. If I am still uncomfortable at 10pm I have no choice but to turn that AC again.
My housemates have no problem with the heat at all, nakakainis... kapag winter nga eh, daig pa nilang nasa oven sa init ng mga rooms nila... hmp! I hope it gets better tomorrow or I will put that AC in my own room.
